ANDREW PILKINGTON ARCHITECTS & DESIGNERS

The client wanted access to her garden for her well being. The previous garden had two high steps and she did not want a ramp but shallow steps for ease of use and accessibility. The materials had to be complimentary to the building and a geometric style was preferred.

The space behind the house is small we designed large shallow steps which expand the terrace outwards creating more seating space for family. The layout of the development has been designed to respond to and retain the existing olive tree. The geometry of the scheme improves as it directly figures itself to the geometry of existing back elevation.

The steps are designed using a permeable material to allow rain water to soak into the ground slowly, therefore reducing flood risk.
